Moneybagg Yo - Time Served (Album Review)

Moneybagg has a couple songs that have made their way into my playlists over the past few years, yet I have never listened to an album in full- now the timing feels right. Time Served.

What I expected was some hard shit. To be honest, I was going to avoid listening to the album because I figured the bangers would make their way to me through my friends. Now that I am listening, I feel like my job is to share this project with the world. At least my world.

The album dropped Friday January 10th, I woke up Saturday afternoon and was ready to listen, but decided to start listening to Quando Rondo’s project first. My reasoning was simple: Everyone else is gonna listen to Moneybagg, I wanna show them Quando. I knew Quando would hit me with those raspy raps, plus I already knew his single “Double C’s”, which I heavily fuck with.

I got about halfway through the album before I switched projects. Not for any negative reasons, I just couldn’t keep listening.

A few hours later, I listened to Moneybagg’s interview on the Breakfast Club, and knew I had to give his album a listen. This happens often. I am far more inclined to hear the art a person makes, when I mess with the person making the art. It might be dumb or weird, but the best way for me to connect with art, is to connect with the person creating it. After hearing Moneybagg’s humble brags throughout his interview, I decided I should give his album a shot. I started with the Lil Baby featured song, “U Played”, because that is what they played to conclude Moneybagg’s Breakfast Club interview.

I don’t have much to say aside from the fact that this is exactly what I want from this project. These beats SMACK, and Moneybagg’s voice fits perfect. The boys and I have been talking about “rapping voices”, and all we really mean is having a voice that sounds great to listen to. Not necessarily clean like a singer, usually the opposite, but nothing too eccentric that we get tired of listening to it.

Moneybagg dropped 15 songs, clocking in at 40 minutes.

If you’re trying to bop, give the album a listen. Some of my favourite songs are listed below:
